In Ephesians, the Apostle Paul wrote to the people of Ephesus to expand their knowledge so that they might understand better the dimensions and depths of God's eternal purpose and grace in their lives and come to a better appreciation of the high goals God has for the church at large.

In Ephesians 6, Paul maintains that those who are strong in the Lord will have victory over evil in the great spiritual conflict, especially through the power of prayer. Paul emphasizes spiritual warfare and uses the analogy of putting on the full Armor of God and praying in the Spirit on all occasions to combat evil under this cosmic conflict.

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Paul reminds us that we are re-born into spiritual warfare and must embrace the call of duty as a spiritual warrior adorned with the whole Armor of God. He describes our struggle as not being against flesh and blood, but against the powers of darkness in this corrupt world and the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly realms.

Paul calls upon the brethren to be spiritual warriors strong in the Lord and in the power of His might in order to stand against the schemes of the devil that try to oppress us and keep us from living the abundant life promised by Jesus and being effective in our faith.
